This week the Associated Press poll had five non-BCS teams ranked (Boise State, Texas Christian, Brigham Young, Houston and Utah) while Central Michigan, Idaho and Navy received votes. Here is how Beyond Six rates the teams entering Week 7:
- Boise State (5-0): The Broncos have won their five games by an average of 25.8 points this season. Boise State was held to a season-low 101 rushing yards in Saturday’s 34-16 win over Cal-Davis. Boise State travels to Tulsa (4-1) on Wednesday to meet the Golden Hurricane in a nationally televised clash.
- TCU (5-0): TCU is 5-0 for only the third time since 1942 and for first time since starting 10-0 in 2003. The Horned Frogs, who are 4-0 in MWC home openers, host Colorado State (3-3) this Saturday.
- BYU (5-1): Since its loss to Florida State, BYU has outscored opponents by an average of 25 points per game. A win over San Diego State this Saturday would give the program its 500th win.
- Houston (4-1): The Cougars rebounded from their upset loss to UTEP to defeat its third BCS team this season, a 31-24 win over Mississippi State. The Cougars are at Tulane this weekend–a team that the Cougars have beaten six consecutive times.
- Utah (4-1): The Utes play their fourth road game in their last five outings before settling in for three straight home games. Kyle Whittingham is 5-0 in games after a bye week. The Utes will look to earn the program’s 600th win this Saturday against UNLV.
- Central Michigan (5-1): Central Michigan is 5-1 for the first time since 1988 and 3-0 in the MAC for the third straight year. The Chips play their first of three straight road games this Saturday against Western Michigan.
- Idaho (5-1): The Vandals received an AP vote for the first time since 1998. Five wins are most for the program in a single season since going 5-6 in 2000. The Vandals play host to Hawaii this Saturday.
- Navy (4-2): The Midshipmen racked up 537 yards of total offense in last Saturday’s 63-14 win over Rice. Quarterback Ricky Dobbs leads the nation in touchdowns with 14. The Midshipmen travel to Dallas this Saturday to play SMU.
- Tulsa (4-1): In four wins this season, the Golden Hurricane has held opponents to 13 or less points. Four of first five games were on the road. Tulsa plays Boise State on Wednesday night. The Golden Hurricane is 0-4 all-time against the Broncos.
- Northern Illinois (3-2): The Huskies two losses have come to Wisconsin by eight points and Idaho by three points. Northern Illinois beat Purdue. The Huskies travel to Toledo for a Saturday game against the Rockets.
On the cusp (in alphabetical order): Army (3-3), Troy (3-2), Ohio (4-2) and Wyoming (4-2).
